Installation view at The University Museum in Albany
Wood, hardware, textile, found painting, steel cable, metal staples
Dimensions variable. Ceiling height of University Museum is 35 feet
This piece responds both to the extreme height of the space and its eccentric mid twentieth century architecture, and is inspired by the form of an old fashioned hand drill, or augur. The eccentric line of the piece pretends, in an obviously playful way, to penetrate the mezzanine floor and emerge in the exhibition space below it. The disjointed, suspended linear structure is composed of scraps of wood and hardware, and appears to be on the brink of collapse. There are two rectangular hanging panels that conjure shop signs as well as paintings.
